South Africa's future athletic champions raced into the nation's spotlight last Friday, putting on an electrifying display of their talent at the Curro Podium Athletics South Meeting at the iconic Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl, Western Cape.
With the backing of South Africa’s leading school group provider Curro Holdings, this high-octane battle of athletic skill and spirit blazed a trail into the Southern provinces and resulted in impressive wins in all 24 events. Stellenberg High School claimed the Best Boys' Team title, while Paarl Girls High A emerged as the Best Girls' Team, and Paarl Gymnasium triumphed as the Best Combined Team.
“The Curro Podium Athletics Meeting in the South was yet another unforgettable showdown that celebrated the passion, talent, and spirit of our young athletes. A huge congratulations to all the winners, who will now go on to compete in the grand national finale scheduled for February 2024. Watch this space,” commented Cindy van der Merwe, Portfolio Manager at Curro Sport.
Individual brilliance also illuminated the track and field, with Brandon-Lee Bothma (Bellville High School) and Mia Wilson (La Rochelle High School) not only dominating the senior track categories, but also winning best track athlete of the day, respectively. Liam van Rooyen (Paarl Gimnasium) and Chris-Mari Nel (Vredendal High School) also showcased their prowess in the senior field events, while Curro Durbanville High School deserved a notable mention for coming in tenth place overall in the combined category.
