Benguela Cove raises a glass to a remarkable achievement.
Our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon emerges victorious, ranking in the top 10 with 95 points at the Winemag Next Generation Awards. This singular cool climate wine, meticulously crafted by our rising star winemaker, Michelle Waldeck, embodies the region's unique terroir and the future of South African winemaking.
Michelle, a 30 under 30 Winelands Winemaker played a pivotal role in bringing this exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon to life. Her meticulous attention to detail and innovative approach to cool climate winemaking shine through in every sip.
The Benguela Cove 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme, true to its noble lineage. The Walker Bay region's cool climate infuses the wine with captivating aromas of blackcurrant, dried herbs, and fynbos, the fragrant South African shrubland. Hints of salty liquorice and leather add complexity, while a seamless dance between fruit and acidity creates a truly captivating experience. Polished tannins round out the palate, leaving a lasting impression of finesse and elegance.
This award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon masterfully bridges the gap between New-World and Old-World styles. Expressive fruit anchors the wine in a vibrant New World character, while restrained oak use adds a touch of sophistication reminiscent of Old-World charm. The wine boasts great concentration and palate weight, a testament to Michelle's meticulous winemaking process. This exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon is built to mature gracefully, promising an even more rewarding experience with time.
This victory at the Winemag Next Generation Awards not only celebrates an exceptional wine but also shines a light on the rising stars of South African winemaking, like Michelle.
