Wedding Catering

Follow these wedding catering tips:

Have you thought about your wedding catering? The food at your wedding is one of the most important parts of your wedding day. After your wedding your guests will always talk about or remember the food they received.

Use these wedding catering tips to make sure you give your guests something worth talking about.

  • The first thing to remember is that it is your day, so choose a menu that both you and your fiancé will enjoy.
  • Be clear when you give your budget to the chef and be realistic on what you expect to get within your budget. The more fancy and bigger the menu, the more expensive it will be.
  • Meet with the chef as soon as possible. The style of your wedding will influence the choice of menu. The chef needs this information sooner rather than later.
  • Change the menu until both you and the chef are satisfied on what is possible.
  • While buffet to table is still very popular, a new trend is serving plated mains on divider plates. This gives you the freedom to serve fish and meat together on one plate while still being able to enjoy each separately, so eliminating the risk of becoming bored with one flavour.
  • The season will influence the menu in 2 ways. Firstly – Nobody wants to eat hot spicy food at a summer lunch. Secondly – Food tastes better when in season.
  • The time of the day will also influence the type of food and the way it will be prepared and served. Heed your chef’s recommendations.
  • First impressions are remembered long after the day and will set the tone of the day. Instead of champagne as a welcome drink, serve a frozen fruit cocktail in summer or gluwein with a cinnamon stick in winter.
  • Think out of the box. Instead of a starter serve canapés while the guests mingle. Pack a small colourful picnic box with small snacks if your guests need to travel from the church to the reception. It is becoming very popular to change from classic mini canapés to having food stations. Thus creating the atmosphere of a food market where guests can enjoy anything from flatbreads, pickles and charcuterie to house-cured lox with sour cream & watercress, all served on mini plates or boards with cake forks. Follow this up with an innovative salad & bread course served family style as a starter.
